Formula 1 returns to Montreal this weekend for the Canadian Grand Prix, the fifth round of the 2026 season and the third sprint race of the year. Kimi Antonelli, the 19-year-old Italian driver, extended his winning streak to three consecutive victories in Miami, building a 20-point lead over his Mercedes teammate George Russell. Russell, who won last year's Canadian Grand Prix, will be eager to close the gap.
What Happened in Miami?
McLaren showed strong form in Miami, with reigning world champion Lando Norris finishing second and Oscar Piastri taking third. Red Bull's Max Verstappen qualified on the front row after improvements to his car. Ferrari had a more difficult weekend: Charles Leclerc received post-race penalties, and Lewis Hamilton could only manage sixth place. Hamilton, however, is a seven-time winner in Canada and secured his first-ever F1 victory at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in 2007.
