Commuters faced rush-hour misery at London's Euston station on Tuesday after two trains broke down on the West Coast Main Line, leading to what witnesses described as 'biblical scenes' of chaos. The breakdowns occurred between Rugby and Northampton/Milton Keynes, causing severe disruption to services operated by Avanti West Coast and London Northwestern Railway.
National Rail confirmed that the lines have since reopened, but warned that trains may still be cancelled or severely delayed. The station itself became extremely busy due to the cancellations, adding to the frustration of passengers.
In addition to the rail disruption, the Jubilee line on the London Underground also suffered severe delays, compounding travel difficulties for commuters. The Jubilee line issues were reportedly caused by an animal on the track earlier in the day.
West Coast Main Line apologised to travellers for the disruption, which affected thousands of passengers during the morning peak. The exact cause of the train breakdowns has not been disclosed.
