The travel plans of thousands of passengers have been thrown into chaos following the sudden collapse of regional airline Blue Islands.
Airline Grounds All Flights
Blue Islands, based in the Channel Islands, suspended all trading and grounded its entire fleet on Friday, 14 November 2025. The abrupt closure marks the second failure of a regional carrier in under three weeks, after Eastern Airways ceased operations on 28 October.
Passengers holding advance bookings with the airline are now facing significant disruption. They are being urgently advised to contact their bank, payment card provider, or travel agent to initiate refund procedures and make alternative travel arrangements.
Government and Industry Response
The government of Jersey, which had an outstanding loan of £7 million to the airline, has stepped in. It confirmed it would offer support to employees affected by the collapse and stated that contingency plans were in place to manage the island's essential air connectivity.
In a rapid response to the crisis, Scottish airline Loganair has announced it will launch new flights from Jersey. These services could begin as early as Sunday, 16 November. The carrier will offer special 'rescue fares' to help maintain vital air links for the island community.
Broader Impact on Regional Travel
The back-to-back failures of Blue Islands and Eastern Airways within a short period raise serious concerns about the stability of the UK's regional airline sector. This collapse disrupts not only leisure and business travel but also essential connectivity for island residents.
For now, the focus remains on assisting stranded passengers and stabilising air routes, with Loganair's intervention providing a crucial lifeline.
