A female barber and TikTok user, known online as @boujeeblendss, captured a distressing altercation at Stratford Bus Station over the weekend. The incident involved a Transport for London employee who was filmed telling an elderly woman she wasn't 'using her brain' while giving her directions.
Filmed Confrontation Goes Viral
The barber, who witnessed the exchange while waiting at a bus stop, immediately began recording when she noticed the worker's disrespectful behaviour toward the vulnerable elderly passenger. In the video, which has since amassed over 30,000 views, the male employee can be seen using stern hand gestures to direct the quiet older woman to her train platform.
Patronising Language Sparks Outrage
The worker's exact words, captured clearly on camera, were: 'You're not using your brain. Walk along, it's on your right.' The barber, horrified by what she was witnessing, approached the employee without hesitation to challenge his unacceptable conduct.
She confronted him directly, questioning: 'She's not using her brain? You're talking to her in a patronising tone - and she's not using her brain, right? She's a fool?' The employee appeared completely stumped by the unexpected intervention, remaining silent as the barber continued her defence of the elderly woman.
Standing Up for Respect and Dignity
The barber told the worker: 'She's an elder lady, you should show some respect.' She further informed him that she intended to send the footage to his superiors to ensure he 'learned how to work with people'. Under the pressure of being recorded at close range, the employee eventually apologised to the elderly woman, saying: 'If I offended you, I apologise.'
He then proceeded to give the pensioner clear, proper directions to her platform inside the Underground station. As the elderly woman walked away, she could be heard thanking her defender, who responded warmly: 'You're welcome.'
Social Media Response and Investigation
In an accompanying caption tagging both Transport for London and Stagecoach Bus, the barber wrote: 'You have your staff calling a vulnerable elderly woman a fool and telling her to use her brain! Watch his body-worn camera to see the full interaction! Disgusting. The micro aggression that isn't MICRO.'
The video has generated an outpouring of support from viewers who praised the barber's intervention. One commenter wrote: 'Thank you so much for speaking up for her. That's someone's mum or grandma.' Another added: 'Glad you stuck up for her. She is clearly an elder and needs a little patience and understanding.' A third noted: 'Even if that was his 10th time speaking to her, he had no right to address her in that way.'
Transport for London's Response
When contacted about the incident, Transport for London confirmed they were urgently investigating. A spokesperson noted that the staff member involved was sub-contracted by a third party and stated: 'We expect everyone to behave respectfully towards one another on our network, and we are urgently investigating this incident.'
The barber's decisive action has highlighted important issues about how vulnerable passengers are treated in public transport settings and the power of bystander intervention when witnessing disrespectful behaviour toward elderly individuals.
