Swansea City defender Ricardo Santos has completed a permanent move to Sheffield Wednesday for an undisclosed fee. The centre-back joined the Swans last summer on a free transfer from Bolton Wanderers but found playing time hard to come by.
Limited Impact at Swansea
Santos made just one appearance for the club, a disastrous outing off the bench against Bristol City under interim boss Darren O'Dea. Swansea lost 3-0 at Ashton Gate in what was the final game before current head coach Vitor Matos took over.
Santos did not play a single minute under the Portuguese coach, and his exit comes as little surprise ahead of the summer transfer window. He is the club's first departure of the window, with Swansea already moving for Celtic centre-back Stephen Welsh earlier this month.
Previous Interest and Future Hopes
The 31-year-old came close to securing an exit in January, with Reading keen on a move. However, he ended up staying in south Wales and was later named in two matchday squads under Matos as an unused substitute.
Santos will now hope for a new chapter at Hillsborough, with Sheffield Wednesday looking to build a path back to the Championship after a turbulent season. Wednesday were relegated without a single point last season, having been deducted 12 points for entering administration and a further six points for breaches of payment obligations. The club also endured a record 23 games without a win and faces a huge rebuild this summer.
