A pair of well-travelled YouTubers have shared their surprising first experience staying at a Wetherspoons hotel, revealing a feature they found 'absolutely crazy'.
From pub bustle to hotel hush
Content creators Ash and Kels, who have visited 65 different countries, decided to try something closer to home. They booked a stay at The Wyndham Arms, a Wetherspoons hotel in Bridgend, Wales, admitting they hadn't previously realised the pub chain offered accommodation. Their immediate surprise came upon entering their room. "Straight away the noise of the pub has gone," Ash explained. Kels echoed the sentiment, stating, "Which is crazy because it's literally there. The minute that door closes, silence."
Modern rooms and iconic carpets
Navigating to their room, the pair were impressed with the modern amenities, which included an en suite bathroom, complimentary tea and coffee, a hair dryer, a flat-screen TV, and WiFi. A signature touch was the feature wall decorated with a classic Wetherspoon carpet pattern. However, Ash had one minor critique about the floor covering. "One half of the carpet is this swirly pattern and the other half of the carpet are these stripes, they should just have one or the other," he said.
An 'insane' budget-friendly deal
Overall, the YouTubers were highly impressed with their find. Kels praised the value, saying, "I really like it, I'm actually surprised with how modern it is. For £55, that's an insane deal." She added that she could see herself staying in more Wetherspoons hotels in the future. The couple reiterated their amazement at the soundproofing, with Kels noting the stark contrast from the busy pub below. Wetherspoons, which now boasts more than 50 hotels across locations like Birmingham, Wigan, Wembley, and Dublin, typically houses its hotels in historic buildings above or adjacent to its pubs. Rooms can only be booked via the company's app or website to secure the best rate.
