A pair of travel-loving YouTubers have shared their surprise after staying in a Wetherspoons hotel for the very first time, uncovering what they described as a 'crazy' feature of the budget accommodation.
From Global Travel to a Local Spoons
Content creators Ash and Kels, who have visited 65 countries, admitted they had never considered staying with the pub chain until recently. They were unaware that JD Wetherspoon operates 56 hotels across the UK and Ireland. Their curiosity led them to book a night at The Wyndham Arms in Bridgend, Wales, a typical Spoons hotel located above one of the brand's bustling pubs.
The 'Crazy' Discovery Behind the Door
Upon arriving at the 'really busy' pub in January 2026, they collected their keycard and headed to their room. The moment they passed through the door to the accommodation area, they were taken aback. "Straight away the noise of the pub has gone," Ash explained. Kels echoed his astonishment, saying, "Which is crazy because it's literally there. The minute that door closes, silence."
Inside, the room offered modern amenities including an en suite bathroom, complimentary tea and coffee, a hair dryer, a flat-screen TV, and WiFi. The decor featured the chain's iconic carpet, though Ash was less impressed with the mix of swirly and striped patterns on the floor.
An 'Insane Deal' for Budget Travellers
Despite the carpet critique, the couple were highly impressed overall. Kels praised the modern, clean room, stating she had no real complaints. She highlighted the value, noting, "For £55, that's an insane deal." The pair agreed the experience had changed their perspective, with Kels adding she could see herself staying in Wetherspoons hotels more often.
Wetherspoons hotels, often set in historic buildings, are situated above or adjacent to the company's pubs. Rooms must be booked directly via the Wetherspoon app or website to secure the best rate. With over 50 locations from Birmingham to Dublin, the chain offers a unique budget travel option starting from just £55 per night.
