Wroxham Travel collapses after almost 40 years

Wroxham Travel, an independent travel agency in Norfolk that operated for nearly four decades, has ceased trading. ABTA confirmed the closure on 30 October 2026 and is now treating the company as a financial failure.

Established in 1987, the agency offered holidays to destinations across Europe, including Spain, Greece and Portugal, as well as long-haul trips to Barbados, Thailand and Mauritius. Its range covered beach getaways, city breaks, cruises and UK staycations. The company ran two branches, one in Hoveton and another in Aylsham, both near Norwich.

ABTA advice for affected customers

In a statement, ABTA said: "We are sorry to inform you that Wroxham Travel has ceased trading with effect from 30 October 2026. We are now treating this as a financial failure. If you had booked travel arrangements with Wroxham Travel, you should follow the advice set out below."

ABTA advised customers to check their paperwork to identify the tour operator or principal business that booked their holiday, noting that this would be named on documentation or on an ATOL certificate for flight-inclusive holidays. Customers were told to contact the credit control department of the tour operator or principal travel business, as bookings should continue as normal and that business would be their direct point of contact. ABTA also urged customers to keep all documentation available, as information from it may be required.

Other travel firms that ceased trading this year

Wroxham Travel is not the only UK travel company to collapse this year. On 9 September, ABTA confirmed that Barnes Worldwide Travel Ltd, an independent travel agent in Liverpool, had ceased trading. That firm was established in 2007 and offered holidays to destinations including New York, Las Vegas, Egypt, Greece and Cyprus.

Golf Villa Rentals Ltd, based in Seaford, East Sussex, stopped trading on 18 August 2026. The company specialised in golf package holidays worldwide, providing villa and apartment accommodation for small and large groups. ABTA's statement at the time said: "We are sorry to inform you that Golf Villa Rentals Ltd has ceased trading with effect from 18 August 2026. The company sold package holidays which included accommodation and travel (excluding flight) and/or other services."

Frasers Travel, a family-run business in Scotland, also ceased trading after more than 40 years in business. A statement on its Facebook page said: "We regret to inform you that Frasers Travel Ltd has today ceased trading. We would like to thank all our past clients for their loyalty and support. If you have an existing booking can you please email details to info@mclenancorporate.com."

TS Travel Realisations Ltd and Yourtravelshop.com Ltd were both confirmed as ATOL failures, a classification that can arise when a company stops trading or becomes insolvent. Travel Bespoke Ltd and Trav Expert Limited closed in May, while Asiara UK Ltd, Simply Florida Travel Ltd and Regen Central Ltd were confirmed by ATOL as no longer protected by their schemes in January.
