Wetherspoons Spice Bag Gets 'Heaven' Verdict From Superfan
Wetherspoons Spice Bag: 'Heaven' Says Superfan

A devoted Wetherspoons customer has declared the chain's spice bag as 'heaven' after sampling the dish over 30 times across multiple locations in Kent. The popular Irish takeaway item, which typically consists of deep-fried salt and chilli chips, chicken, and mixed peppers, has made its way across the Irish Sea and onto the menus of many UK establishments, including JD Wetherspoons.

Spice Bag Enthusiasm

The superfan, posting on Reddit's r/Wetherspoons community, shared their one-word verdict on the menu item: 'Heaven.' They revealed that they were about to enjoy their 31st spice bag from 11 different Wetherspoons pubs in Kent, always requesting extra dry spice. 'It's the best thing on the menu and I'm so glad it's staying for a while!' they wrote, adding that only three or four things in their 49 years have made them this happy.

Mixed Reactions

However, not all customers share the same enthusiasm. Some commenters expressed disappointment, describing the dish as 'just a handful of chips and some nuggets of chicken with a few pieces of chopped chilli and some seasoning shaken on top.' One person who fell in love with spice bags in Dublin found Wetherspoons' version 'not bad... but not great either.' A staff member admitted that while customers enjoy it, the dish can be annoying to prepare, especially when working the line solo. Another critic noted the dish tastes nice but is 'far too dry,' suggesting that making it less dry would elevate it to the best item on the menu.

Wetherspoons first introduced spice bags as part of a St Patrick's Day inspired menu, but due to popularity, many locations have kept them as a permanent fixture. The chain operates nearly 800 pubs across the UK, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland.
