Bognor Regis has been named the UK's worst seaside town in a Which? survey, based on visitor ratings. The research, which gathered thousands of holidaymakers' experiences, scored destinations on beaches, seafronts, food, attractions, and overall satisfaction.
Bottom of the rankings
Several familiar resorts received low scores across multiple categories. While some towns impressed in one area, like beaches, others struggled consistently. The list of the 20 lowest-scoring towns is ranked from least poorly rated to the very bottom.
Low-scoring resorts
Paignton in Devon scored 53%, with three stars for its beach and seafront and pier, but only one star for scenery, shopping, and peace and quiet. Southport also scored 53%, with its beach and seafront receiving just one star each, though food and drink got three stars and its £67 average hotel price was relatively low.
Herne Bay scored 52%, with two stars for its beach and seafront and pier, but one star for tourist attractions and scenery. Its £107 average hotel price made the low score harder to overlook. Littlehampton recorded 51%, with a three-star beach but one-star ratings for scenery and shopping.
Survey highlights
The results make for uncomfortable reading for some of Britain's most familiar resorts. The full list of 20 towns, with Bognor Regis at the bottom, reflects widespread visitor dissatisfaction with seafronts, attractions, and value for money.
