Ruben Chorlton-Owen, 25, from North Wales, was staggered by the price difference when dining out in Tenerife compared to the UK. During his holiday with his girlfriend, he found that meals cost significantly less, with a set menu at Savoy Restaurant in Playa de las Americas priced at just €13.95 (£11.93).
Generous Portions and Excellent Service
The couple enjoyed four courses between them, including starters, mains with fillet steak, desserts, and extra Chinese dishes. Ruben said: "The food was consistently excellent, with generous portions, friendly staff and great service. Everywhere we ate felt like fantastic value for money, especially compared to what we'd usually expect to pay back home."
Significant Cost Savings
Ruben noted that a three-course meal in Tenerife cost less than a single main course in the UK. He added: "I expected Tenerife to be a bit cheaper, but I genuinely didn't expect the difference to be so significant. We found ourselves eating out much more because everything felt so affordable."
Tips for Affordable Dining
To save money, holidaymakers can look for menus del dia (fixed-price meals) and eat local dishes like papas arrugadas with mojo, tortilla, croquetas, grilled fish, soups, and stews, which are often better value than imported steaks.
