Three simple habits could transform the airport experience, helping travellers skip queues and cut costs, according to seasoned travellers at Wanderlust Storytellers. From using online airline processes to adjusting packing, small changes can lead to significant benefits before boarding.
Check-In at Home 24 Hours Before
Checking in online 24 hours before a flight secures better seat options and avoids long check-in queues. Most airlines allow mobile boarding passes, which should be screenshotted in case of connectivity issues. Some airlines also offer a "twilight" check-in service, letting passengers drop bags at the airport the night before flying, so they can go straight to security on departure day.
Pack an Empty Water Bottle
An empty water bottle can be filled for free at a water fountain after security. Many airports now have filtered water stations, saving money and reducing plastic waste, according to Wanderlust Storytellers. For anything purchased at the airport, most airlines allow a shopping bag alongside hand luggage, helping passengers spend less on board where costs are often higher.
Plan Hand Luggage Carefully
Placing all electronics and liquids in easily accessible outer compartments of a carry-on allows for quick removal at security checkpoints. Budget airlines often enforce strict luggage rules, so travellers must ensure cases fit within dimensions. Jamie Fraser, travel expert at Wild Packs, noted that common luggage habits can cause bottlenecks in narrow aircraft aisles. He said: "Many passengers don't realise how small actions with their bags can slow down boarding for everyone. Plane aisles are tight spaces, so when someone stops suddenly or struggles with luggage, it can delay hundreds of passengers behind them."
