A small independent sandwich shop in Bristol has been crowned Uber Eats restaurant of the year, winning a £100,000 prize to invest in the business. Sandwich Sandwich took home the accolade at a ceremony in London, beating competitors from the capital and across the UK.
Uber said this year's awards focused on supporting lesser-known operators navigating difficult economic conditions. A recent survey of its restaurant partners found that 65 per cent feel short-staffed, while 70 per cent cite inflation and energy costs as serious concerns.
The shop impressed judges including Dame Prue Leith of Great British Bake Off and Monica Galletti of Mere restaurant in Fitzrovia. Co-owner Josh Kleiner said: “It is difficult to put into words. The process has been so exciting from start to finish... This investment will make our ambitions to grow as a family business a reality.”
Leith praised the menu as “imaginative, inventive and delicious,” adding: “There’s something for everyone on there.” Uber Eats also reopened its Black Business Fund, offering £250,000 in grants to 25 Black-owned restaurants across the UK.
