A Quintessential English Village
Hawk Green is a traditional suburban village on the eastern edge of Marple, around a twenty-minute drive from Stockport. It sits at high elevation, offering sweeping views north across Stockport toward Manchester and Salford, and southwards from The Ridge across the rolling hills of the Peak District.
The village was originally a rural hamlet known as Half Green, transformed by the opening of the Macclesfield Canal. Local businessman Robert Shepley built Shepley Mill, a steam-powered cotton mill, on the east bank of the canal. Terraced cottages were constructed for workers, and by 1840 the village was renamed Hawk Green, believed to be after a nearby Hawk Field.

The Crown was first recorded as an inn in 1837. Today, it offers fresh, seasonal British pub grub, local cask ales, and popular Sunday roasts. The pub has a main restaurant, back restaurant, bar tables, lounge, and Frederic Suite, plus an outdoor terrace with full table service.
The set menu includes starters like crispy halloumi fries, BBQ pulled pork nachos, and salt and pepper chicken bites, along with larger plates such as chicken schnitzel, vegetable Thai curry, Greek salad, fish and chips, pot pie of the day, and beef lasagne. Desserts include cheesecake of the day, sticky toffee pudding, chocolate orange torte, and lemon meringue tart.
