Long-Standing Suffolk Holiday Resort Enters Administration Following Financial Difficulties
A cherished holiday destination in the Suffolk countryside has entered administration after serving visitors for more than three decades. Stonham Barns Holiday Park, located in the picturesque village of Stonham Aspal, first welcomed guests in 1987 and has been under its current management since 2001.
Administration Process and Future Prospects
The resort, which features an impressive nine-hole golf course, a retail village, a museum, and multiple fishing lakes, officially filed for administration on February 16. The company appointed FRP Advisory as administrators, who released a statement confirming the move was necessitated by a period of significant financial pressure on the business.
David Hudson, a joint administrator and partner at FRP Advisory, has provided reassurances to customers, stating they can book with confidence and that existing holiday arrangements remain unaffected. He emphasised that the company is maintaining a business as usual approach while actively marketing the site for sale to potential buyers.
The administrators are focused on continuing operations at the park while seeking a purchaser, with the primary objective of securing the park's future as a viable going concern. All existing holiday bookings will be honoured, and the site will continue to accept new reservations throughout the administration process. All facilities, including the golf course, retail village, museum, and fishing lakes, will remain fully operational as normal.
Contrasting Industry Developments
This development occurs against the backdrop of expansion within the UK holiday park sector. Parkdean Resorts, another major operator, has recently launched new all-inclusive packages across forty-two parks nationwide. These packages offer prices starting from just £25 per adult and £10 per child per day, designed to provide hassle-free getaways at bargain prices.
The all-inclusive offering includes three meals daily and unlimited soft drinks, featuring Costa Coffee, all incorporated into the overall cost. This option is available exclusively for four-night Monday-to-Friday breaks during selected spring and early summer dates. Guests can add the all-inclusive upgrade during the standard booking process or upon arrival at the park.
Andy Edge, chief marketing officer at Parkdean Resorts, highlighted that following a successful trial at ten parks in 2025, the company is expanding the all-inclusive offer to forty-two holiday parks this year. This expansion positions Parkdean Resorts as one of the largest providers of all-inclusive UK holiday park breaks. Edge noted that families of four could save over £300 by opting for the all-inclusive package, making it a highly cost-effective choice for vacations in scenic locations across England, Scotland, and Wales.
The parks offering this new package include popular destinations such as:
- Cornwall
- Devon
- Dorset
- Norfolk
- Snowdonia
- The Isle of Wight
- The Lake District
With caravan holidays starting from £89 for four nights, a family of four can enjoy accommodation, food, and drinks for under £93 per day through this all-inclusive scheme.
Meanwhile, administrators at Stonham Barns continue to welcome bidders interested in acquiring the caravan park, hoping to preserve its legacy as a beloved Suffolk holiday destination for future generations.
