A solo traveller who has visited 60 countries has shared five cities he would never return to, sparking debate among his followers. Lucas Brancatisano, known as @alocalguide_ on Instagram, regularly posts travel advice and footage to his 6,300 followers. In a recent reel, he disclosed the destinations he would 'never go back to if his life depended on it.'
New Delhi, India: Overstimulation and Smog
Lucas described the Indian capital as a 'whole new level of overstimulation,' citing pollution, noise, buses, horns, and cows on the road. He noted that the sky is 'filled with smog.' He declared: 'It's not for me, I don't think I'll ever go back. The rest of India in parts is absolutely lovely, but New Delhi... not for me.'
León, Nicaragua: Sweaty and Dangerous at Night
The traveller characterised León as 'sweaty and dangerous at night.' While he said Nicaragua itself is fantastic and he had a 'great time' there in 2024, he simply did not enjoy visiting León. 'I'll never go back,' he said.
Oia, Santorini: Hell on Earth in Summer
Discussing Oia in Santorini, Greece, Lucas proclaimed: 'This place is my definition of hell.' He described crowded summer conditions with 'getting sunburnt, 1,000 selfie sticks with everyone getting the same sunset photo.' He added: 'You can just look at it online, you don't have to go and get a photo of it. Don't go there, you'll have a really bad time.'
Phnom Penh, Cambodia: Not Much Going On
Lucas visited Phnom Penh 'a long time ago' and recalled a heavily developed city filled with tyre shops and 'not much going on.' He conceded: 'I could be wrong, and please let me know in the comment if I am wrong, because Phnom Penh maybe I would go back to.'
Benidorm, Spain: A British Tourist Trap
The traveller described Benidorm as 'hell,' adding: 'If you find yourself there and you're not British, you're in hell.' He noted English breakfasts on virtually every menu, countless British tourists 'rolling around,' and 'pasty skin everywhere,' insisting it is simply 'not a very nice place.' He advised: 'If you're in Spain and you're going to Benidorm, you need to rethink all the life choices you've made up to that point, because you're in the wrong spot.'
Mixed Reactions from Followers
Wrapping up his video, Lucas declared: 'That's my list, there's not many I wouldn't go back to, but they are five of them.' The post garnered over 6,000 likes, but some viewers held contrasting opinions. One person wrote: 'Will definitely go back to León in Nicaragua.' Another added: 'I was in Phnom Penh last year. It was very cool. Great riverside markets, river cruise, pubs and restaurants, temples. Beauty everywhere.' A third chimed in: 'I loved Oia!' A fourth commented: 'Benidorm to Brits is Cancun to Americans.' A fifth shared a story: 'Went to India, New Delhi, 10 years ago; the taxi just dropped me off in the city centre and left. I was so overwhelmed with everything going on that I sat down on the footpath and started to cry, a cow came out of nowhere and started to eat a cardboard box beside me. Locals stopped and started pointing at me and taking photos. Weirdest and best travel story I think I have, would I do it again? Hell ya haha.'
