A shark alert has been issued in the popular holiday destination of Ibiza after a predator was filmed swimming in a harbour. A boat worker spotted the injured animal circling in Marina Botafoc on Monday morning.
Bosun Ediz Mehmet, 46, from Cala de Bou, said he arrived at the marina at approximately 8am and saw what appeared to be a blue shark, estimated to be between two and three metres long, moving in circles. Adult blue sharks typically measure between 1.7m and 2.2m, though some can reach up to 4m.
Mehmet noted the shark seemed injured, behaving unusually as it swam from side to side between the pontoons. Witnesses observed a small wound on the upper part of its dorsal fin, possibly a bite. One onlooker suggested the shark may have been disoriented by bad weather.
This sighting follows a recent incident at La Reya Beach in Puerto de Mazarrón, Murcia, where a two-metre shark prompted tourist evacuations. Lifeguards cleared the beach as the predator's fin was seen near swimmers, with an emergency boat eventually coaxing it away from shallow waters.
