A sunflower trail in North Berwick, East Lothian, is open throughout August, offering visitors the chance to pick their own blooms for £18 per car. The Balgone Sunflower trail, located just 30 minutes from Edinburgh, is described as one of Scotland's most beautiful day trips.
What to Expect at the Trail
The trail spans 14 acres, which transform into a sea of gold from August onwards. Visitors can meander through twisting paths, discover hidden photography locations, and select fresh flowers to take home. The blooms are generally at their best from now and will stay colourful well into early September.
According to the website, visitors can "come for the day or stay for the sunset." The trail offers a range of experiences, from golden-hour photography to private field hire and evenings with food and live music. There are also opportunities to take part in yoga and pilates at the grounds.

One Scotsman, Chris Lawlor, recently visited the location and shared his experience with his 377,000 followers on TikTok. He said: "Did you know that near Edinburgh in Scotland there is a short walk among the sunflowers. This is the Balgone Sunflower trail in North Berwick. On this trail, there is an option to pick and buy a sunflower. This is only open at certain times of the year (around August) so check before going."
The trail runs between 8-23 August, with each experience having its own dates and times, so visitors are advised to check the website for further details. For those travelling from Glasgow, the trip takes approximately 1 hour and a half by car, covering 73 miles via the M8 and through Edinburgh before reaching the destination in East Lothian (EH39 5NY). Alternatively, visitors can travel by train to North Berwick Station, which is located about 2 minutes away.
