Finnich Glen, the Scottish natural attraction known as 'The Devil's Pulpit', has been listed for sale. The eerie site, where the water appears blood red against sandstone, spans 23 acres and features a 60ft drop.
A magnet for visitors and filmmakers
Located near Killearn in Stirlingshire, the glen draws over 70,000 visitors annually, including tourists, wild swimmers, and film crews. Described as Scotland's 'Grand Canyon', it is a sub-glacial meltwater channel thought to have been created up to 12,000 years ago by a Loch Lomond re-advanced glacier.
The property is being marketed by Christie & Co, with offers invited. The listing describes the gorge as 'carved through sandstone over centuries' and notes its folklore connections to druids and witches.
Film and TV fame
Finnich Glen has featured in productions including Outlander, Detective Pikachu, Sherlock Holmes, King Arthur, Taggart, and The Eagle. It is accessible by car via the A809 and A81, linking north to Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park.
Development potential
Plans have been approved for a visitor centre with a cafe or restaurant, a dedicated car park, and an event space. Projections suggest annual visits could rise to over 300,000.
Current owners David and Carole Young, custodians since the early 1980s, are passing on the project. They said: 'We feel that we have reached a stage in life where new owners would be able to take forward our vision for the Glen and develop this opportunity in a way that is compatible with this unique property.'
They added: 'The Glen requires management to preserve and protect its environment, but whoever purchases Finnich Glen, taking it to the next phase, has the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of giants.'
