Pintmaxxers: mates on a mission to save pubs

A group of ten friends from East Anglia, known as the Pintmaxxers, are on a mission to drink the most pints in 2026 while supporting local pubs. What started as a "silly bit of fun" tracking their beer consumption turned semi-pro earlier this year when they launched the Pintmaxxing app.

From a tweet to an app

The idea began after the group saw a tweet about mates tracking their pints over a year, with one facing "relegated" status. Co-founders Elliot Honeybun-Arnolda and Eetu Jouhki told your Daily Star: "It began casually after we saw a tweet about a group of mates tracking their pints over a year and one of them was about to get 'relegated', so we started tracking ours too at the start of the year, for fun."

In April, they decided to post about it online. "Then the first video we posted got around 80,000 views, followers grew fast, and people genuinely wanted to get involved in it so we created the app," they added.

Supporting local pubs

The group's mission is to "get people back into pubs and support local ones and the culture." They explained: "Pubs are a big part of British social identity and have a long cultural history. They're a 'third space' where you can see your mates, talk to other people and be part of a community."

"Local pubs are struggling with rising costs and fewer customers, so we wanted to use our platform to help them," the drinkers said. They have done pub crawls around local pubs, including ones with independent breweries, to add to their tally and support those establishments.

The toll of the pints

The group admitted to "dreadful hangovers along the way." A typical night of 2-3 pints would turn into 5-12, a couple of times a week. Saturdays that started as "just a pub lunch" ended at 2am with barely any food and around 14 pints, followed by a crushing hangover the next day.

The members are Elliot Honeybun-Arnolda, Eetu Jouhki, Joe Shilan, Jack Morgan, Tom Barnett, Elliot Harper, Scott Hill, Tom Gadd, Raul Sherman, and Lewis Walne. They have also met new people, including Connor, who was doing a charity walk called the World Cup Beer Run, and they plan to collaborate with food and drink creators. The group is even "planning a world tour."
