Pentle Bay on Tresco Island in the Isles of Scilly, Cornwall, has been named one of the best beaches to visit in spring, according to experts at GO Outdoors. The beach boasts crystal-clear turquoise waters and sugar-white sand that rivals Caribbean shores, making it a top destination for spring getaways.
The beach is part of a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), including offshore islands like Merrick Island and Round Island, which support breeding seabird colonies. Visitors can enjoy swimming in shallow, tranquil waters, kayaking around the island, or strolling along the half-mile curved coastline bordered by dunes and Agapanthus flowers that bloom in spring and summer.
GO Outdoors analysed data from UK coastlines, ranking Pentle Bay fourth based on an average spring temperature of 10°C, monthly rainfall of 59mm, daily sunshine of 7.2 hours, and a 4.8 out of 5 Google rating. One visitor described it as “one of the most beautiful beaches I’ve ever seen,” while another called it a “private gem” and “mini paradise.”
To reach Pentle Bay, travellers can take a boat from Penzance Harbour in Cornwall to Tresco Island, a journey of about two hours and 45 minutes. Calum Jones from GO Outdoors recommends packing a waterproof jacket, supportive footwear, layers, and sun protection for unpredictable spring weather.
