Wroxham Travel, an independent travel agent based in Norfolk, has ceased trading after nearly 40 years, with ABTA now treating the firm as a financial failure and urging affected customers to check their paperwork.
Founded in 1987, the company offered holidays to popular European destinations including Spain, Greece and Portugal, as well as worldwide trips to places such as Barbados, Thailand and Mauritius. Its range covered beach getaways, city breaks, cruises and UK staycations, operating from two premises in Hoveton and Aylsham, both near Norwich.
ABTA confirms financial failure
On Friday, 30 October, ABTA announced that the firm had ceased trading. In a statement, ABTA said: "We are sorry to inform you that Wroxham Travel has ceased trading with effect from 30 October 2026. We are now treating this as a financial failure. If you had booked travel arrangements with Wroxham Travel, you should follow the advice set out below."
The closure has proved especially devastating for Norfolk residents, according to the Express.
Guidance for affected customers
In guidance issued to consumers, ABTA stated: "If you booked a holiday through Wroxham Travel, the tour operator or principal business with whom Wroxham Travel booked your holiday will be named on your paperwork (or ATOL certificate if it was a flight inclusive holiday; this would be stated on your ATOL certificate under 'Who is protecting your trip')."
ABTA added: "To ensure your holiday can continue as planned, you will need to contact the credit control department of your tour operator or other principal travel business with whom you have a contract. Your booking should continue as normal, and they will be your direct point of contact. Please ensure that you have all your documentation with you, as they may require information from it to assist you."
Other travel firms collapse this year
Wroxham Travel is not the only British travel company to collapse this year. On Wednesday, 9 September, ABTA announced that Barnes Worldwide Travel Ltd, an independent travel agency based in Liverpool, had stopped operating. Launched in 2007, the firm provided getaways to destinations including New York, Las Vegas, Egypt, Greece and Cyprus.
Golf Villa Rentals Ltd, based in Seaford, East Sussex, ceased operations on 18 August 2026, having focused on golf package holidays worldwide with villa and apartment accommodation. Frasers Travel, a family-operated firm headquartered in Scotland, also collapsed after more than four decades, with a Facebook post stating: "We regret to inform you that Frasers Travel Ltd has today ceased trading. We would like to thank all our past clients for their loyalty and support."
TS Travel Realisations Ltd and Yourtravelshop.com Ltd were both designated as ATOL failures, while Travel Bespoke Ltd and Trav Expert Limited closed in May. Earlier in January, Asiara UK Ltd, Simply Florida Travel Ltd, and Regen Central Ltd were all confirmed by ATOL as no longer protected by their schemes.
