Top New Cruise Ships for 2026 and Beyond: Luxury and Megaships Await
The cruise industry is set for an exciting wave of new vessels in 2026 and beyond, offering passengers a diverse range of options from luxury river journeys to colossal megaships. Following notable launches in 2025, such as Star of the Seas and Disney Destiny, the coming years promise even more innovation and expansion across major cruise lines.
Norwegian Luna
Norwegian Cruise Line's Norwegian Luna, the fourth Prima class ship, is scheduled to launch in April 2026. Handed over at the Fincantieri shipyard, this 1,056-foot vessel, with a gross tonnage of 156,300, will accommodate 3,550 passengers. Features include the hybrid Slidecoaster waterslide rollercoaster and unique entertainment like "Rocket Man: A Celebration of Elton John." Maiden voyages will sail in the Caribbean.
Legend of the Seas
Royal Caribbean's Legend of the Seas, the third Icon class ship, will debut in Europe in July 2026. As one of the world's largest cruise ships, it will host 5,610 passengers with amenities like the largest waterpark at sea, a high ropes course, and 40 bars and restaurants. Exclusive performances of "Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" and the immersive "Royal Railway" dining experience will be highlights. It will operate seven-night western Mediterranean cruises from Barcelona and Rome.
Disney Adventure
Launching in March 2026, Disney Adventure is the eighth ship in the Disney fleet and the largest at 208,000 tonnes, accommodating over 6,000 guests. Homeporting in Singapore, it will offer Asian cruises with godparent Robert Downey Jr. Unique features include a Disney castle and the Marvel-themed Ironcycle Test Run, the first rollercoaster on a Disney cruise ship, measuring 820 feet—the longest at sea.
Seven Seas Prestige
Regent Seven Seas' Seven Seas Prestige, launching in December 2026, marks the first new class in a decade. This 77,000-tonne ship will host 822 guests with a high crew-to-guest ratio, butler service, luxury lounges, and the Azure Mediterranean mezze-style restaurant. Suites range up to the 9,000-square-foot Skyview Regent Suite, priced at £20,000 per night. Maiden voyages will sail from Barcelona to Miami, with itineraries in the Caribbean and Europe.
Explora III
MSC Cruises' luxury brand, Explora Journeys, will launch Explora III in August 2026. With capacity for around 900 guests, it features five heated pools, six restaurants, and 12 bars, with a guest-per-staff ratio of 1.25:1. Maiden voyages start from Barcelona to Lisbon, with prices from £4,770 per person.
MSC World Asia
MSC World Asia, launching in December 2026, is the latest in MSC's World class series, designed with Asian cultural elements. It will accommodate 6,782 passengers and include a giant dragon sculpture in the promenade and a 12-deck dry slide inspired by Singapore's Gardens by the Bay. Maiden voyages depart from Barcelona, with prices starting at £1,186 per person.
Viking Mira
Viking Cruises' Viking Mira, launching in June 2026, is a small ship with a gross tonnage of 54,300 and 499 staterooms for 998 guests. Featuring Scandinavian design, it will sail the Mediterranean and northern Europe during its maiden season.
Star Explorer
Windstar Cruises' Star Explorer, launching in December 2026, offers 112 suites for 224 guests, including Horizon Owner's Suites with wraparound balconies. Facilities include the Yacht Club Cafe and a Marina watersports platform. It will sail year-round in Europe, with a christening in London in May 2027.
TUI Elara
TUI River Cruises' TUI Elara, launching in summer 2027, is an adult-only river ship for 138 passengers. Scenic Group Fleet
Scenic Group will launch three luxury river ships in 2027-2028: Emerald Nova on the Douro River (112 guests), Scenic Aria on European rivers (96 guests), and Scenic Spirit II on the Mekong River (68 guests). Additional launches include Emerald Astra in May 2026 and Emerald Lumi in 2027.
Celebrity River Cruises
Celebrity Cruises enters the river cruise market in 2027 with 10 ships, starting with Celebrity Compass and Celebrity Seeker on the Rhine and Danube. Cabins for 2027 are sold out, with bookings open for 2028, aiming to replicate its luxury ocean experience.
