Brains Brewery is opening a new city centre pub in Cardiff's Central Square, located next to the train station and bus interchange. The venue will be the first bar or pub to sit outside the bus station, joining existing food and drink outlets such as Starbucks, Kiwis Bowls, Muffin Break, and Which Wich Superior Sandwiches.
Announcement and Partners
Brains Brewery teased the announcement on Instagram on Wednesday, posting that "something new is brewing" at Central Square. The same day, signs appeared on the south side of the bus station confirming the new venue, which will be located under the Legal & General offices.
Steve Lewis, who runs Breaking Brands, one of the companies behind the development, announced the news on Facebook. He wrote: "We're proud to announce an exciting new project for Central Square, Cardiff. Breaking Brands, Brains Brewery and Transport for Wales are coming together to create a welcoming new destination for the millions of visitors travelling through the heart of the city."
Features and Opening Details
The project will celebrate Welsh brewing and food heritage, offering a relaxed place for visitors to enjoy a beer and a bite while waiting for transport. Guests will be able to sit inside or use a large terrace, with live bus and train times displayed to assist journeys.
The opening date has not been confirmed. However, a council alcohol application displayed outside the premises states that alcohol will be sold from 9am to 11pm every day of the week.
Brains Brewery and Breaking Brands previously opened The Old Brewery in Cardiff's Brewery Quarter in August, on the former site of Ballie Ballerson. That venue features interactive sports games and Welsh-inspired menus celebrating the city's brewing heritage.
