A major search and rescue operation has been launched on the Isle of Skye after a 77-year-old American tourist disappeared in the rugged Scottish landscape.
Robert Cameron, a visitor from the United States, was last seen in the Sligachan area on Tuesday afternoon, sparking urgent concerns for his welfare amid challenging weather conditions.
Extensive Police Response Underway
Police Scotland has confirmed they are coordinating a comprehensive search effort involving multiple emergency services. Inspector Chris Murray stated: "We are growing increasingly concerned for Robert's safety and wellbeing. We have officers conducting searches in the Sligachan area with support from the Skye Mountain Rescue Team and the Coastguard helicopter."
The missing tourist is described as approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall with a slim build. When last seen, he was wearing distinctive dark-coloured trousers and a dark-coloured jacket, making him potentially difficult to spot in the remote Highland terrain.
Appeal for Public Assistance
Authorities are urgently appealing to anyone who may have seen Robert or has information about his whereabouts to come forward immediately. Local residents and fellow tourists are being asked to check their properties and surrounding areas.
"We would ask anyone who believes they may have seen Robert or who has any information on his whereabouts to contact us as a matter of urgency," Inspector Murray emphasised.
Challenging Search Conditions
The search is taking place in one of Skye's most dramatic but potentially dangerous landscapes. The Sligachan area is known for its stunning mountain scenery but presents significant challenges for search teams due to its remote location and changeable weather conditions.
Emergency services are working against time as daylight hours become limited and weather conditions remain unpredictable in the Scottish Highlands.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting reference number 2831 of June 25th.
