A man remains in hospital following a crash near Liverpool John Lennon Airport on Saturday, July 25. Merseyside Police responded to the scene on Speke Hall Avenue near the airport roundabout at around 6.15pm after a car struck a tree.
Driver suffered medical episode
It is understood that the driver of the white VW ID experienced a medical episode at the wheel. He was treated at the scene by a member of the public and paramedics before being taken to hospital for further treatment. Police confirmed in an update on Monday, July 27, that he remains in a serious but stable condition.
Road closures and diversions
Following the incident, road closures were put in place on Speke Hall Avenue from the roundabout to its junction with Dunlop Road. Traffic arriving at the airport was not affected, but departing motorists were directed by airport staff to alternative exits. The road reopened a short time later.

Liverpool John Lennon Airport shared a statement on Instagram, saying: "Due to an incident near the main roundabout near to the airport terminal, staff are directing all arriving traffic on an alternative entrance to the airport and the car parks/drop off area."
