Mum's sudden death leaves sons facing 12-month wait for new home

Leanne Jones, 53, died suddenly on October 3 at her home in Aberbargoed, leaving her two young sons facing a potential 12-month wait for new housing. Her daughter, Lisa Llewellyn, has launched a fundraiser to support the boys, which has already raised over £2,400 against a £4,000 target.

Ms Jones was found by her family at her home, believed to have fallen off her bed. The circumstances of her passing are still unclear; a post mortem has been completed, but an inquest will be held as no cause of death has yet been given.

Family Tribute to a 'Kind' Mother

Her daughter, Lisa Llewellyn, paid tribute, describing her as someone who was unconditionally proud of all her children and her grandson. “She always saw the best in everyone, she was always kind to everyone. We're trying to stay close as a family and support each other,” she said.

“She loved all of us kids, as any parent would, and was just so proud of us no matter what we'd done or how well we'd done, how bad we'd done, it didn't matter, she was just always so proud of us. She was always nice to everyone and had loads of friends. She loved anything that involved make up and clothes.”

Boys' Living Situation and Fundraiser

Ms Jones' younger sons, Leo Edwards, 16, and Joel Edwards, 11, had lived with her at the time of her passing. They are now sharing a bedroom at the home of their sister, Miss Llewellyn, as they don't want to return to their family home where their mum passed away. It is feared they could face up to 12 months before suitable housing is found. It is the second tragedy the boys have faced in their young lives, having lost their dad years earlier.

The family hope to raise enough to give the boys the best Christmas possible during an unimaginably difficult time, and raise money to make their living circumstances more comfortable. Over £2,400 has been raised so far, already well over half way to a £4,000 target.

Overwhelming Support

Speaking of her reaction seeing the amount of money raised, Ms Llewellyn said: “I woke up in the morning and I saw it and I was in tears. It shocked me how much it has raised. We raised £1,000 in less than 24 hours, we couldn't believe it.

“Christmas is two pays away and we didn't budget for their Christmas presents. We always just got them hampers. We've also been hit with funeral costs. We've started a GoFundMe thinking that they could have something to look forward to with Christmas, and hopefully, fingers crossed, they will have a new home by then and they can buy all of their own bedroom stuff, so it just gives them a little glimmer of hope.”
