Accor-owned brand La Dolce Vita Orient Express has announced a new luxury sleeper train service from Rome to Istanbul, with top suites priced at over £47,000. The five-day, four-night journey, departing on 22 October, will travel through Italy, Romania, and Turkey, offering passengers a taste of the Golden Age of rail travel.
Route and Destinations
The train departs Rome in the evening and heads to Venice, where guests can spend a full day exploring palaces and canals. It then continues east to Budapest, allowing time to admire grand architecture and iconic bridges. The route passes through the Carpathian Mountains, with stops in medieval Brașov and Sinaia in Romania, known for royal residences. Private tours are available in Venice, Budapest, and Transylvania. The final leg enters Turkey, arriving in Istanbul in the afternoon of the last day.
Onboard Accommodation
The train comprises 31 cabins: 18 suites, 12 deluxe cabins, and the La Dolce Vita Suite. Interiors by Dimorestudio feature 1960s Italian-inspired design with geometric motifs, organic furniture, and terracotta hues. Deluxe cabins (from €34,000 single or €40,000 double) include a fold-out double sofa bed, marble en suite, and mini bar. Suites (from €46,240 single or €54,400 double) offer a separate bed and sofa. The La Dolce Vita Suite, at 30 square metres, includes a living area, dining space, two bathrooms, walk-in wardrobe, bespoke silk and Murano glass artwork, and a personal concierge. It is bookable only by contacting reservations directly.
Dining and Entertainment
The restaurant car serves a menu by three-Michelin-starred Chef Heinz Beck, using Italian regional produce and recipes. A curated wine list features prestigious Italian vineyards. Guests can enjoy live piano and vocal performances after dinner. Each cabin has a call button for room service, offering Italian delicacies like olives, cheese platters, and breadsticks.
