A central London pub has become an online sensation after visitors compared its interior to the fantasy world of The Lord of the Rings. Waxy O'Connor's Irish bar, located on Rupert Street near Piccadilly Circus, has been described as reminiscent of Rivendell, the elven home from JRR Tolkien's epic.
The pub, named after an 18th-century Dublin candlemaker, spans six floors with four bars, each in a themed room. Features include a 250-year-old beech tree originally from Ireland, winding staircases, hidden corners, gothic stained glass, and carved wooden archways. One visitor on TikTok likened the atmosphere to 'Rivendell meets Hogwarts'.
Waxy O'Connor's holds a 4.5-star rating on Google Reviews, with patrons praising its unique decor and affordable prices. A pint costs around £6 on average, and one customer reported getting two drinks for £11. The venue also offers live music nights at some locations, such as in Glasgow.
The viral TikTok video, posted by user Aleks, urged more people to visit the pub, which she called a hidden gem. Commenters expressed excitement, with one saying they were 'obsessed with Waxy's being romanticised'. The chain has other outlets across the UK, though the Manchester branch has closed.
