London has been named the best city in Europe for 2023, according to Resonance Consultancy. The firm's annual ranking of the world's best cities placed the British capital ahead of other European metropolises, citing its food scene, infrastructure, and overall appeal.
The study evaluated 100 cities based on factors including attractions, walkability, diversity, experiences, employment levels, and even Instagram hashtags. London scored highly for its offerings to both visitors and residents, demonstrating resilience amid economic challenges, the Queen's death, Brexit, and political changes.
The city's tech sector was highlighted, with major companies like Google and TikTok investing heavily in London. Improved transport links, particularly the Elizabeth Line, which celebrated its first anniversary, were praised. The report noted that London's Tube is nearly back to pre-pandemic capacity, with the Night Tube reopened and new stations added.
Future developments include the Camden Highline, a 1.2-kilometre greenway set to open in 2025, transforming an unused railway track into an elevated park. Meanwhile, London's luxury property market has thrived, with sales of homes in Mayfair and St James's up 63% compared to pre-pandemic levels.
