An Ibiza hotel and music venue has cancelled a number of music events following the deaths of two British men on its premises within two weeks.
Gary Kelly, 19, a professional ice hockey player for the Dundee Stars, died at the Ibiza Rocks hotel on Monday. His club described him as a “hugely talented and charismatic individual” who “had a great future ahead of him”. The death of Kelly came two weeks after another Scottish tourist, Evan Thomson, 26, fell to his death at the same hotel on 7 July.
In response, the venue decided to pause its scheduled events programme due to “the seriousness of the situation and out of respect for those involved”. It said: “We are deeply shocked and devastated by the recent incidents that have tragically occurred.” The hotel added that its priority is to support those affected and assist authorities with investigations.
The rapper Dizzee Rascal and the band Rudimental were among the acts due to perform. The hotel did not specify how many events were cancelled.
The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office confirmed it is supporting the family of a British man who died in Spain and is in contact with local authorities. Other ice hockey teams, including the Glasgow Clan and the Whitley Warriors, also paid tribute to Kelly.
