A holiday park in Cornwall is facing a compensation claim of more than £1 million after a young girl suffered a traumatic brain injury when she fell from a wall. The incident occurred in October 2019 at Perran Sands Holiday Park in Perranporth, which is owned by Haven Leisure.
The girl, now nine, was four years old at the time. She fell backwards off a wall onto the ground 1.5 metres below, fracturing her skull and sustaining a brain haemorrhage. Her mother has taken legal action, alleging that Haven Leisure was negligent in failing to recognise the danger posed by the wall.
Court documents reveal that no one saw the child climb onto the wall, which was less than 50cm high on one side. Haven claimed the stepfather had placed her on the wall, a claim the family denies. The mother asserts that the company failed to carry out an adequate risk assessment and should have installed a barrier or warning signs.
Since the accident, signs reading 'Please do not climb on this wall' have been installed. The mother is seeking provisional damages, with the possibility of further compensation if her daughter's condition worsens. Haven Leisure has declined to comment on the case.
