What Your Packing Habits Reveal
Are you the comfort seeker, stuffing your bag with tea bags, your own pillow, and a travel appliance to avoid a room without a kettle? Or perhaps you're the classic over-packer, struggling to force your suitcase shut, complete with cutlery, a rubber ring, and your entire wardrobe in tow?
A survey of 2,000 holidaymakers found that many simply cannot enjoy a trip abroad, or even a staycation, without bringing along tea, biscuits and even clothing for an entirely different season.
Survey Highlights
Nina Lumsden, from Star Brands for Lenor Crease Releaser, which commissioned the research, said: "We might not know it, but there are a host of things we rely on every day for our comfort, so it makes sense that we like to take the little things with us to truly have a good time on a trip."
The study also revealed that many wouldn't dream of heading off without their own towel (50%), their own garment de-creasing products (20%), and some even go to the lengths of bringing their own condiments (14%) and hangers (12%), just in case the local offerings fail to measure up.
Overpacking vs. Spontaneity
Seven in ten said they'd sooner overpack than run the risk of being caught short. Nearly half (48%) went so far as to say they need their home comforts with them to truly make the most of any getaway.
Only 8% of travellers believe their holiday accommodation provides everything they need. Among the most common holiday gripes were uncomfortable pillows (41%), insufficient hangers (20%), and creased clothing (45%), according to the survey.
Planning Styles
One in three people have been forced to leave a favourite outfit behind because they feared their accommodation wouldn't have an iron available. These seasoned travellers also admitted to having every aspect of their trips planned down to the finest detail (15%), according to findings from OnePoll.
Meanwhile, 36% prefer to have some arrangements in place while still leaving room for a bit of spontaneity, and a rebellious few prefer to jet off with no real plans whatsoever (13%).
Take the Quiz
Nina added: "Whether you're someone who plans every outfit in advance, throws everything in at the last minute, or packs a few home comforts just in case, what we take away with us can say a lot about the kind of traveller we are. The goal is usually the same – to arrive ready to relax and enjoy the trip."
