Heathrow Airport has urged all passengers to check the latest travel guidance before their journeys. In a message on social media platform X, the airport advised travellers to review the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) travel advice for their destination and sign up for email alerts via GOV.UK.
The FCDO provides detailed travel guides for each country, covering entry requirements, safety, health risks, and legal differences. The department emphasises the importance of checking this information well before departure, not leaving it to the last minute.
Passengers are also reminded to obtain appropriate travel insurance as soon as they book. Insurance should cover the destinations, duration, and any planned activities such as adventure sports. Travellers must disclose any medical conditions to their insurer to ensure adequate cover.
Health precautions are another key step. Travellers should check healthcare advice for all countries visited and ensure vaccinations are up to date at least eight weeks before travel. For EU countries and Switzerland, a valid Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC) is recommended, though it is not a substitute for travel insurance and does not cover all costs or repatriation.
