A flight attendant with a decade of experience has issued an urgent warning to passengers who fall asleep before the plane takes off. Ale Pedroza, based in Orlando, Florida, shared her advice in a viral TikTok video, highlighting the risks of dozing off during the pre-takeoff phase.
Pedroza explained that sleeping before takeoff can be harmful to your ears and, more importantly, during taxiing—a critical phase of flight—passengers need to be alert. 'You want to make sure that you are completely aware and completely awake in case of an emergency or in case you have to evacuate,' she said.
In addition, Pedroza warned against consuming your own alcohol on board. 'It is against federal relations to consume your own alcohol because we do need to make sure that you are drinking responsibly,' she noted, adding that this rule applies in the UK as well.
She also advised against walking around barefoot on the plane. 'You never know what you are stepping on, and the floor is not always the cleanest,' she said, recommending that passengers keep their shoes on, especially when using the lavatory.
