Flight attendants and passengers have taken to social media to share some of the most revolting behaviours witnessed aboard aeroplanes. Former flight attendant Shawn Kathleen runs the popular Instagram account Passenger Shaming, which features photos sent in by cabin crew and travellers from around the world.
One photograph shows a woman clipping her toddler's toenails mid-flight, prompting a horrified passenger to caption the image: 'Why is this lady clipping her toddler’s toenails on the lane?' The post drew comments including a vomiting emoji and exclamations of disbelief.
Another image captures a man changing his clothes in the aisle, with his trousers down and underwear exposed. One viewer commented: 'He needs to rethink his life if he can’t wait until at least a lavatory is open… Offensive in so many ways.'
A Reddit user shared a selfie showing a fellow passenger with two dirty, bare feet propped on a headrest, writing: 'This is the one thing I am most worried about before getting on a plane.' In a separate incident, a transparent plastic bag filled with urine was left tied to a seat, with Passenger Shaming posting: 'Just your typical leftover bag o’pee and random slipper on a Wednesday.'
Perhaps the most bizarre episode involved a woman calmly combing her wig while seated, captioned: 'Don't mind me, just combing the airplane for my wig.' The account continues to document such unhygienic and antisocial acts, much to the dismay of frequent flyers and crew alike.
