Passengers have been warned to avoid using toilet paper in aircraft lavatories, as a flight attendant reveals unsanitary conditions on planes. In a series of TikTok videos, user @cierra_mistt shared insider tips, urging travellers to use paper towels instead of toilet paper because they are 'higher quality and won't rip or dissolve'.
The flight attendant also cautioned against walking barefoot to the bathroom, stating: 'I can assure you the liquid on the floor is not water and you certainly don't want to be stepping in it.' She added that bathrooms are rarely cleaned during flights unless they become unusable, and post-flight cleaning crews 'don't do a deep clean like you think they do'.
According to Cierra, intensive cleaning only occurred during the Covid-19 pandemic, focusing on tray tables and seatbelts. Nowadays, cleaning is limited to tidying up and removing rubbish. She also advised against using the hygiene wipe provided on boarding for tray tables, suggesting they are already cleaned, and recommended sanitising window areas instead, as they are seldom thoroughly cleaned.
Reacting to the revelations, one viewer commented: 'Sooooo planes are dirty, got it,' while another admitted to carrying 'hospital grade wipes' for travel.
