Lanzarote named Europe's warmest October destination

Lanzarote, part of Spain's Canary Islands, has been named the warmest place in Europe in October, according to the Met Office. The island, a long-standing favourite among British holidaymakers, offers an average temperature of 26.8C during the month, making it the hottest destination in Europe at that time of year.

October weather and conditions

The Met Office said: "October is the perfect time to visit Lanzarote if you're after sunshine, an average of 7 hours daily, and a comfortable peak temperature averaging 26.8C and 19C at its coolest during the night."

Rain during the month is at most moderate, with an average of 11mm, while wind speeds drop to around 11.1mph compared with the summer months. Research from the National Centres for Environmental Information indicates that Lanzarote experiences only one day of rain in October, with wind speeds potentially lower than in July when tourist numbers peak.

Popular resorts and activities

The island offers a range of destinations for different types of travellers. Puerto del Carmen is popular with Brits seeking bustling nightlife and budget-friendly resorts, while Costa Teguise tends to cater more to families. Playa Blanca is known for its beaches and a more relaxing atmosphere, whereas Arrecife offers a more authentic cultural and culinary experience.

Cheaper flights and global comparison

Flights to Lanzarote from the UK in October are considerably cheaper than during the high season, with airlines such as Ryanair and Easyjet offering return trips for under £100. The Met Office also lists the best global spots for October sunshine, with Lanzarote ranking fourth behind Cancún, Marrakech, and Sharm El Sheikh, and ahead of Cyprus, Gran Canaria, and Kos.
