Flat Iron has confirmed it will open its first Liverpool restaurant on Castle Street before Christmas, ending nearly a year of anticipation. The steak brand, founded in 2012 by Charlie Carroll and led by Tom Byng since 2021, operates around 20 restaurants across London, Manchester, Leeds and Cambridge.
Grade II-listed building and previous tenants
The Liverpool site will occupy a Grade II-listed building on Castle Street, a 1930s property that once housed the headquarters of Royal Liver Assurance. The restaurant will take over the partially underground unit previously used by Point Blank shooting range, which was also once home to the Olive Press restaurant, as well as the raised ground floor above it.
Posters appeared in the window on September 11, telling passersby the restaurant was 'coming soon.' Flat Iron has now told the ECHO that it plans to welcome customers before Christmas.
Menu and signature dishes
Flat Iron’s Head of Beef Fred Smith said: “It’s been a long time coming but we’re very pleased to confirm we’re opening our doors this side of Christmas. Our mission has always been to offer remarkable, carefully sourced steak at an affordable price and we can’t wait to share it with the people of Liverpool.”
The menu is led by the signature ‘Flat Iron’ steak, taken from the featherblade. It also features a rotating board of specials, including Wagyu daily specials and a smashed onion double cheeseburger made using beef from the Flat Iron herd in Thirsk, North Yorkshire.
Sides will include beef dripping chips, creamed spinach, truffled macaroni cheese and crispy bone marrow garlic mash. The drinks list offers a curated selection of wines, including Flat Iron’s own Malbec, alongside draft beers and signature cocktails.
