Fans have slammed FIFA after images of $1 million World Cup final seats emerged online, with some pointing out that their location would make it difficult to actually watch the action. The ultra-expensive seats, which appear to have been shared by a mixture of Argentina and Spain's super-rich supporters, were posted on social media site X by US sports journalist Alex Silverman, who reports that the pricey tickets were bought for $1 million on hospitality site On Location.
What the $1 Million Package Includes
According to the snaps, fans were given blue, pitch side sofas with plenty of leg room, their own private area separated by a metal fence, as well as FIFA branded cowboy hats. The package also includes hospitality service within the Pitchside Lounge, a private meet & greet with a legend at the Final, private transportation throughout the tournament, a dedicated account manager to help accommodate requests (including excursions), and access to high-end accommodation.
The sofas included in the eye-watering package are believed to have been made by Swiss furniture store Beliani—although this has not been verified. Similar looking velvet-lined foam sofas can be purchased on B&Q for £759.99.
Limited Edition Labubu Doll
In one photo, a FIFA branded 'Catch the Game' Labubu doll can be seen next to one of the seats, although it is not yet clear whether this limited edition toy comes with the package or not. The themed doll originally sold for around £93, though that figure has risen slightly on some resale sites.
Fan and Journalist Reactions
Despite the incredible price, many pointed out that as the seats are at pitch level and behind the photographers, it may be difficult to actually watch the game. One fan wrote: "Is the 'photographer' gonna stand there the whole game?" while another added: "Worst view in the whole stadium but you pay a premium for it, make it make sense."
On X, fans were less than impressed, slamming 'greedy' FIFA as well as the 'stupid' supporters willing to hand over that much cash. One user wrote: "Stupid people who think that the basketball 'courtside seats are the best' applies to football as well. These are [terrible] seats. But hey, f*** you all if you are willing to pay a million bucks for a football match seat." Another user slammed the prices, lamenting: "Football used to be for the fans."
It wasn't just fans who were unimpressed, with Athletic football journalist Adam Crafton writing: "The game, gone, gone, beyond gone, the gonest it will ever get."
Describing the seats, Silverman wrote: "The view from the $1 million on-the-pitch seats sold by hospitality provider On Location for the FIFA World Cup Final at MetLife Stadium. It's on the sunny side of the stadium, so sunhats are included."
