Trump attacks Norway over Nobel Peace Prize snub at rally
Trump attacks Norway over Nobel Peace Prize snub

President Donald Trump has turned his anger on Norway, the European country he blames for not being honoured with the Nobel Peace Prize, during a MAGA rally in Michigan on Sunday.

Trump, 80, was speaking to supporters ahead of the crucial mid-term elections on November 3 when he launched into a foul-mouthed tirade against the Scandinavian nation, which administers the world-renowned prize.

Trump's tirade against Norway

Trump told the crowd: “I’m not in love with Norway. Frankly, Norway sucks.”

He added: "Norway has become a sh*thouse country, actually."

The US president's classification puts Norway alongside other nations he has given the dubious tag, including Somalia, Haiti and Yemen.

Nobel Peace Prize frustration

Trump was furious he was not awarded the prize this year despite his claim he has "settled eight wars". The prize is awarded for creating peace and was created following the wishes of the will of Swedish industrialist Alfred Nobel, credited with inventing dynamite.

The US president has campaigned to receive the Nobel Peace Prize for two years since becoming president for his second term in January 2025. Last year the prize went to Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado, who later 'gave' the award to Trump in the Oval Office in recognition for US military intervention in her country. The Nobel committee said the prize was not transferrable.

This year the prestigious accolade was given to Navanethem "Navi" Pillay, a South African jurist and former UN human rights commissioner who once represented Nelson Mandela. Trump described Ms Pillay, 85, as an unknown "liberal person" who "hates Israel".

Nikki Minaj at the rally

Also at the rally was the so-called "Queen of Rap" Nikki Minaj, a keen Trump supporter. The global music star, 43, accompanied Trump on Air Force One heading to the rally on Sunday and took to the stage to share her support for the president.

Ms Minaj told the MAGA crowd that Trump had "changed the energy of the country" and "given us a future to look forward to". In return the president praised Ms Minaj's "beautiful ass".

Trump was in Michigan to support the Republican candidate Mike Rogers, who is facing off in the race to become senator against the Democrat candidate Abdul El-Sayed.
