Europe's smallest airport with only three flights a day

Ostrava Airport in the Czech Republic is one of the smallest in Europe and the world, handling just three commercial flights a day, and sometimes only two.

Footage shared by a visitor on TikTok under the handle @flywithlinna shows the terminal nearly empty, a stark contrast to the usual chaos of busy airports. From October to April, the airport is typically deserted due to the off-season, with activity picking up only in summer when flights operate on behalf of travel agencies.

A Key Economic Centre Despite Its Size

According to Airports Worldwide, the airport remains a major economic and industrial centre for the area despite its small scale. It is also known as Ostrava-Mosnov International Airport and is the second-largest airport in the Czech Republic.

The most popular route from Ostrava is to London, with Ryanair offering a service every two days. At present, there is one domestic flight offered from the airport.

Location and Nearby Attractions

The city of Ostrava serves as the transport and logistics hub of the north-eastern part of the Czech Republic. The airport is situated near the Polish border, about three hours from Prague.

Nearby, the Dolní Vítkovice is a historic point of interest, once one of the largest coal and iron production sites in Europe. Today, it is a cultural heritage area and a National Monument, with furnaces, coke ovens, and brick buildings converted into museums and art spaces, according to Lonely Planet.

For travellers from the UK, flights to Ostrava are available but require a stop at Warsaw Chopin Airport.
