The English Curry Awards 2025 have named Sher Khan in Alnwick, Northumberland, as the best curry house in England, beating competition from across the country. The awards ceremony, now in its 14th year, took place in Birmingham and recognised the finest curry establishments by region and city.
Sher Khan, located in the small market town of Alnwick, claimed both the overall Curry Restaurant of the Year prize and the title for the North East region. Local diners have praised the restaurant for its excellent service, friendly staff, and reasonably priced menu. Starters start from £3.95, while main courses average around £10.
Regional winners included Aroma Asian Restaurant in Burnley for the North West, Khandan Restaurant in Wellington for Yorkshire and Humber, and Spice Valley in Norwich for the East of England. Everest Lounge in Market Harborough took the East Midlands award, while Lavang in Solihull won for the West Midlands, Spice Route in Andover for the South East, and Mattancherry in Taunton for the South West.
City-specific awards were also presented. London's best was Masala Inn in Bexleyheath, while Manchester's top spot went to Spice n Spirits. Other city winners included Sanskrit in Newcastle, Delhi Wala Food in Leeds, Da Mount Gurkha in Liverpool, Prithiraj in Sheffield, Anoki Restaurant in Nottingham, and Padharo Indian Restaurant in Southampton.
The awards highlight the enduring popularity of curry houses across Britain, which have become a staple of many towns and cities.
