As the summer holiday season approaches, easyJet has reminded passengers of two crucial steps to ensure their safety while travelling. The airline advises all customers to obtain comprehensive travel insurance and to share their travel details with a trusted contact.
On its website, easyJet emphasises the importance of taking out travel insurance at the time of booking. The airline states: 'We cannot stress enough how important it is to take out comprehensive travel insurance at the time of booking, to cover you in the event that something stops you going on holiday and of course while you’re away too.' Passengers are urged to check that their policy covers any activities or sports they may participate in, and to carry a copy of the policy along with the emergency assistance contact number.
easyJet also notes that a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) or Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC) only provides basic state medical care in participating countries and does not cover repatriation. The GHIC, which is free to apply for via the NHS website, allows UK residents to access necessary state healthcare in the European Economic Area on the same basis as local residents.
Secondly, the airline advises passengers to leave a copy of their travel details with next of kin or an emergency contact. This simple step ensures that someone trustworthy knows the traveller's itinerary and can be reached in case of an emergency.
