Dunkin’ Returns to Canada After Eight-Year Absence, Plans Hundreds of Stores
Dunkin’ Returns to Canada with Toronto and Montreal Stores

Dunkin’ is making its return to Canada after an eight-year hiatus, with plans to open hundreds of stores across the country. The popular US donut chain will first launch in Toronto and Montreal, according to Foodtastic, the franchise operator that has signed a master franchising agreement.

Return to the Great White North

The first Dunkin’ store is expected to open in six months, marking the brand’s comeback after it left Canada in 2018 following a legal dispute with its last remaining franchisees. Foodtastic CEO Peter Mammas expressed enthusiasm about the expansion, stating, "It's a younger, cooler brand. And I think it's something that's missing in the landscape."

Stiff Competition Ahead

Dunkin’s return will put it in direct competition with Tim Hortons, a beloved Canadian donut chain with more than 4,000 stores nationwide. Despite the challenge, Dunkin’ aims to carve out a niche with its refreshed brand image and menu offerings.

The agreement between Foodtastic and Dunkin’ signals a significant investment in the Canadian market, with hundreds of stores planned over the coming years. The first locations will focus on major urban centers before expanding to other regions.
