Crete in October: 24C sunshine and £30 flights from Liverpool

Crete, a Greek island known for sandy beaches, waterfront tavernas and a city with a charming Old Town, remains one of Europe's best holiday destinations for October, with daytime temperatures averaging 24C.

As autumn progresses, options for hot and sunny holidays narrow, and by November sun-seekers typically need to look further afield to places like Mexico and Thailand. In October, however, several European destinations still enjoy late-summer warmth, and Crete stands out as one of the best choices.

At 24C, the island is warm enough for beach days, sightseeing or relaxing by the hotel pool, all without the peak summer crowds. Evenings cool to around 16C, so packing layers is advisable for sunset cocktails outdoors, though bulky cardigans and winter coats can stay at home.
