A stunning expansive beach in Cornwall, frequently overlooked by holidaymakers, has been hailed as 'the most underrated beach in the UK' by a travel content creator. Gwithian Beach, also known as Gwithian Towans, sits near Hayle, just north of St Ives, forming part of three miles of coastline called the Towans—meaning 'dunes' in Cornish.
The beach boasts rock pools, striking cliffs, and endless stretches of golden sand extending towards Hayle, making it ideal for families seeking marine wildlife and unspoilt landscapes. Facilities include two cafés, toilets, and an extensive car park, with activities such as swimming, surfing, windsurfing, kite-buggying, and rock pooling available during low tide.
Travel content creator Hannah, known as hannahsukwanders on social media, praised the beach: 'It's a beautiful golden sandy beach with stunning cliffs to back it. The beach was dotted with natural sea pools, and it's also a great surfing spot thanks to its Atlantic swells.' She added that at low tide, visitors can access other beaches and might spot grey seals and seabirds, with Godrevy Lighthouse providing a spectacular sunset view.
Hundreds of Instagram users urged Hannah to keep the beach secret, with one calling it 'the best sandy beach in the world'. TripAdvisor reviewers also raved, with one saying: 'Two words: go here. Super clean beach. What a find—breath-taking.' Another long-time visitor noted: 'We've been coming to West Cornwall for decades, but never visited Gwithian Beach before. The lighthouse and beach at low tide looked magnificent.'
