Two British tourists were rendered unconscious during a violent drunken confrontation with a bodybuilder on a bustling street in Pattaya, Thailand. The incident occurred on March 5 as the muscular tourist, accompanied by his girlfriend, was departing the infamous Walking Street in the area colloquially known as 'Sin City'.
Violent Altercation Captured on Camera
Shocking footage from the scene depicts the fitness enthusiast exchanging punches with a group of friends, actions that unfolded before a crowd of stunned bystanders. According to eyewitness reports, the holidaymakers were engaged in the fight as they exited a local beer bar, escalating quickly into a physical clash.
Serious Injuries Sustained
One of the British men lost consciousness after attempting to evade a punch, only to lose his footing and fall backwards into a stationary truck. The other participant was knocked to the ground during the intense scuffle. Emergency paramedics arrived promptly to find one man collapsed on the pavement with a dislocated hip, facial abrasions, and multiple cuts.
Nearby, another man aged between 25 and 30 years old was discovered lying unconscious. Both individuals received immediate first aid at the scene before being transported to Pattaya Bhattamakun Hospital for further medical treatment and evaluation.
Police Investigation Underway
Police Captain Jittisuk Suthenitatwong of the Pattaya City Police Station provided details on the ongoing investigation. "The tourist involved was released following initial interrogation," he stated. "We must await the recovery of the injured victims before we can question them thoroughly to pursue appropriate legal action."
Pattaya's Notorious Reputation
This incident highlights the persistent challenges facing Pattaya, a destination frequently marred by tourist-related violence and criminal activities, earning it the moniker 'Sin City'. Embarrassed central government officials have implemented various tourism initiatives aimed at attracting family visitors and rebranding Pattaya as a secure and welcoming location.
Authorities have introduced enhanced safety measures, including improved street lighting and expanded CCTV surveillance networks, in efforts to curb such incidents. Despite some progress in cleaning up the town's image, alcohol consumption and the sex industry continue to be major attractions, often contributing to elevated rates of crime and accidents among visitors.
