A British woman in her 60s has died after falling from a raft during a white water rafting trip in the French Alps. The incident occurred on Saturday shortly after midday on the Guisane River near the town of Briançon, close to the Italian border.
Local firefighters reported that the woman was found on the riverbank after falling from her raft during a supervised outing. She was rushed to a hospital in southeastern France but later died from her injuries.
Prosecutors have opened a manslaughter investigation into the incident, led by the Briançon CRS Alpes. The probe will examine the circumstances of the accident and the role of the tour guides who were supervising the trip.
A local public prosecutor stated: 'Investigations are continuing to determine the circumstances of the accident.' A Foreign Office spokesperson said: 'We are in touch with local authorities following the death of a British woman in France.'
