A 53-year-old British man has died after falling around 30 feet from a multi-storey car park at Gran Canaria Airport. The incident occurred at approximately 7:30am local time, and the man was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders.
Police have confirmed that the man was not a tourist, but have not released further details about his identity. A spokesman for the National Police on the island stated that the fall happened in the car park near the domestic departures area, from a height of about three storeys, approximately 10 metres.
Local reports suggest that the man fell through a gap inside the car park. Authorities are investigating whether the death was accidental, due to a structural fault, or deliberate. CCTV footage from the area is being reviewed as part of the inquiry.
This tragedy follows a similar incident in July, when a 25-year-old British tourist died after a fall from a supermarket car park in San Antonio. The Gran Canaria airport was also the site of a fatal shooting in May, when a Gambian teenager was shot dead by police after threatening holidaymakers with a knife.
